Things went wrong for Geraint Thomas during the third stage of the Tour de Suisse. The rider from INEOS Grenadiers crashed and remained on the ground for a long time, but he could continue to the finish. The British rider finished 15 minutes behind and gave an update on his condition after the race.
Thomas remained on the ground long after his crash on the Swiss asphalt. The veteran rider hit the ground at what appeared to be low speed, after which he underwent a medical check-up by the doctor. A little later, the 39-year-old rider from Wales got back on his bike and, together with three teammates, began the long return to the peloton.
“I've twisted my knee and hamstring," Thomas said after the race. His team posted Thomas' interview on Instagram, in which he describes his injuries. “But it's all okay," he reassures us.

Crash Thomas was 'own fault'

Thomas crashed in a corner with 60 kilometers to go. Viewers will immediately have thought of the Tour de France, which starts in Lille in three weeks. If Thomas' injuries are not too serious, this will be the last Tour for Thomas, who will retire after this year.
How did Thomas crash? The climber explains it himself. “I just hit the edge of the road,” Thomas told reporters after the finish. “It was my own fault, but then my foot got caught behind me, and I twisted my knee and hamstring. It was just a dead leg.”
With the help of the medical car and three teammates, Thomas rejoined the peloton about 20 kilometers later. “For the first minute or so, I had trouble bending my leg, but once I was on the bike and got going, it loosened up a bit,” he explains. “It's just a little painful: the muscles are a bit strained, but it's okay.”
