Bernal disappoints Norway, but continues working towards upcoming goals

The organization of the Tour of Norway suffered a small setback this week. On Tuesday, the Norwegians announced with great fanfare the arrival of star attraction Egan Bernal. However, it turns out that the Colombian will not be traveling to the Scandinavian country at all.

"Once again, the Tour of Norway has a great starting field," the organization wrote earlier in a press release earlier this week. "With Bernal, we have a former Tour de France winner at the start, who can count on the support of riders like Luke Plapp and Magnus Sheffield."

However, when INEOS Grenadiers announced the team for the upcoming stage race via Instagram on Tuesday evening, Bernal was nowhere to be found. According to the provisional start list, the Colombian was replaced by British upcoming talent Joshua Tarling.

After Hungary, Bernal traveled to Colombia

Not that Bernal is sitting idle these days, far from it. After finishing eighth in both the Tour de Romandie and the Tour of Hungary, despite a heavy crash in the latter race, he took the time to travel to Colombia for just a few days in the middle of the week. He has since started training in Monaco, where he has been for almost a week now.

As Bernal has not yet been confirmed for participation in a grand tour such as the Tour de France or Vuelta a España, it is likely that his next race will be the Critérium du Dauphiné, a race that starts next Sunday. On Wednesday, the A.S.O. announced through a press release that Bernal is listed on the provisional start list.
