Defending champion Yates and Ayuso standouts in UAE Team Emirates' Tour of Romandie selection: "Feeling the pressure"

On Tuesday, the Tour of Romandie kicks off in Switzerland. Many GC contenders aim to solidify their form before the Giro, just a few weeks away. However, some teams view it as an opportunity for stage wins or overall victory, bringing their strongest line-ups to the race. This is precisely the case for UAE Team Emirates.

With defending champion Adam Yates and Juan Ayuso, Tadej Pogacar's team presents two formidable leaders at the start. Ayuso, who won the individual time trial on day three last year, expressed his enthusiasm for the race: "I have fond memories of this event. It's where I achieved my first WorldTour victory, and the scenic routes make it a joy to cycle through. The team is in good shape, and we're aiming for a strong result."

Adam Yates 'feels the pressure as defending champion'

Teammate Yates, known for his prowess in the mountains, not only clinched a stage victory but also secured the overall classification last year. Reflecting on his role as defending champion, he admitted, "There's definitely some pressure to perform well again this year. My recent race in Abruzzo went smoothly, and I feel my form has improved since then, so everything seems to be heading in the right direction." In Switzerland, both leaders will receive support from home rider Jan Christen, Felix Grossschartner, Brandon McNulty, Ivo Oliveira, and Pavel Sivakov.

Furthermore, UAE has also unveiled its lineup for the Tour of Asturias (April 26-28) and Eschborn-Frankfurt (May 1). In Spain, Mexican talent Isaac Del Toro will lead the charge, while German cyclist Nils Politt aims to continue his successful spring classics campaign on home soil. Antonio Morgado will also compete in the Spanish three-day stage race, following his maiden professional victory.
