Attila Valter will be leaving Visma | Lease a Bike. The 27-year-old Hungarian joined Groupama-FDJ in 2023, but after three years, he will be leaving the Dutch team for Bahrain Victorious. Following persistent rumors earlier this year, the transfer was confirmed on Friday: The Hungarian champion will sign a three-year contract with the team managed by general manager Milan Erzen and sports director Aart Vierhouten.
Valter broke through in 2021 when he wore the pink jersey for three days in the Giro d'Italia. After another strong year in French service, he is moving to Jumbo-Visma. In his first year in Dutch service, he proved his worth in the middle mountains, where he guided Jonas Vingegaard to overall victories in O Gran Camiño and the Tour of the Basque Country. He was also a crucial player in that year's phenomenal Vuelta a España, where the Dutch team stole the show with the numbers 1, 2, and 3 in the final standings.
However, as time went on, Valter was given fewer and fewer opportunities at Visma | Lease a Bike. This year, he was not selected for the Giro and the Tour de France. At Bahrain Victorious, he hopes to be able to come to the fore more often. “The team’s goals are perfectly matching with my personal ones,” he explains on the website of his new team. “This gives me a lot of confidence and I’m excited to start this journey together with them!”

Bahrain Victorious sees 'crucial role in mountains' for Valter

General manager Erzen is delighted with the signing of the Hungarian powerhouse. “We are very pleased to welcome Attila to Bahrain Victorious. He is a rider we’ve followed for a long time and believe he has the potential to take another step forward with us,” explains the Slovenian. “Over the next two years, we see him playing a crucial role in the mountains – supporting our GC leaders while also having the freedom to chase his own results.”
