Bad news for Lidl-Trek, once again: Jonathan Milan, winner of the final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico on Sunday, will not line up for Milano–Sanremo on Saturday. The Italian has fallen ill, his team announced on Wednesday in a press release. “Unfortunately, Jonathan became ill after returning home from Tirreno-Adriatico and was forced to rest in order to recover,” Lidl-Trek said in a short statement. “It has therefore been decided that he will not take part in Milano–Sanremo this Saturday.”
A run of bad luck for Lidl-Trek
The team had already seen Mads Pedersen drop out after the Dane crashed in the Tour of Valencia. There is still hope that he can take part in (part of) the Flemish classics.
Thibau Nys (knee problems), Mattias Skjelmose (wrist issue), Albert Withen Philipsen (after crashing in Strade Bianche), Toms Skujins and Juan Ayuso (both after crashing in Paris-Nice) have also all been hit by setbacks for the German-registered team. Partly because of that run of misfortune, Lidl-Trek have so far looked a lot less dominant than they did last season.
