In Denmark, fans were hoping on Thursday for a big comeback from Jonas Vingegaard and Visma | Lease a Bike against Tadej Pogacar, but it didn’t happen. On both the Madeleine and La Loze climbs, the yellow jersey wearer didn’t flinch, and by the end of the day, Pogacar had even extended his lead over the Danish rider.
Former cyclist, now turned analyst, Michael Rasmussen sharply wrote his feelings on X immediately after the stage. “I’m left with a lukewarm feeling after watching this queen stage of the Tour de France, or should I call it a princess stage? Or perhaps even better: some distant cousin of a duke’s stage?” the Dane asked cynically.
Rasmussen noted that Visma | Lease a Bike and Vingegaard did try to attack on the Madeleine, but in his view, the final climb was ultimately a weak attempt. “It’s truly disappointing that Jonas didn’t go for it seriously much earlier on the last climb,” Rasmussen said.

Rasmussen feels Visma | Lease a Bike squandered chance for day's win

Representing the Dutch team, Matteo Jorgenson went with Einer Rubio (Movistar) and eventual stage winner Ben O'Connor of Jayco AlUla. “I never understood the point of letting Jorgenson go with a breakaway and thus give up a potential stage win,” said Rasmussen, though he added a side note after a day with 5,500 meters of climbing. “That being said, I’m sure there’s a lot of muscle soreness around Courchevel right now.”
