Primoz Roglic managed to finish third in the Tour of Lombardy on Saturday. The Slovenian from Jumbo-Visma would have loved to end his tenure in yellow and black with a win in a prestigious Monument, but had to concede victory to compatriot Tadej Pogacar towards Bergamo.
From the onset, Jumbo-Visma took control of the race with the likes of Sam Oomen and an impressive Jan Tratnik, followed by Tiesj Benoot, Wilco Kelderman and Attila Valter setting the stage for the team's main rider from the yellow and black Dutch outfit. However, he couldn't seal the deal.
Roglic struggled on the final climb to Bergamo's old center, but managed to catch up during the descent and eventually clinched third place on sheer determination. "I didn't have the legs, that was clear. But I tried, all the way to the finish. And that, with no legs, honestly," he said with his signature smile to the assembled media after the race.

Before the race, he talked about it being his last for Jumbo-Visma. "We wrote great stories together, and I have wonderful memories of that," he mentioned. Afterward, he added, "I'm glad it's over. A lot was happening around me, but I still gave everything on the bike. I can't regret that. Will I have a vacation now? Hopefully!" Roglic is expected at his new team BORA-hansgrohe in mid-October, where they'll start preparations for 2024.
All in all, he could strike a positive note. "I'm more than happy. It wasn't so much emotional, just very tough. I would have liked to finish better, but it is what it is," he reiterated in conclusion.
