The cycling peloton has a new couple. Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale rider Clément Berthet has married FDJ-SUEZ rider Juliette Labous. The couple announced the news on Instagram, sharing beautiful photos of the wedding. There was also a lovely guard of honor (with wheels!) on display.
Berthet is now 28, and it was already known that the French rider would switch to Groupama-FDJ this winter. The climber didn't win any races this year, but he did show some great form with a second place in the Ruta del Sol, an eleventh place in the Tour of the Basque Country, two podium places in the Classic Grand Besançon and the Tour du Jura, and a fourth place in the Tour Poitou-Charentes.
The 26-year-old Labous also failed to win this year, but she, too, showed some excellent form. She finished second in Strade Bianche, fourth in the Amstel Gold Race, fifth in the Vuelta, seventh in the Tour, and became European champion in the Mixed Relay with France. No transfer for the Frenchwoman, as Labous will ‘just’ be racing for FDJ-SUEZ again next year.

The cycling world congratulates Berthet and Labous

For the marriage proposal, we have to go back a while. 77 weeks to be precise, to May 7, 2024. That's when the duo posted some wonderful news on Instagram: they were getting married. With their busy schedules as professional cyclists, the wedding took place a year and a half later. “Unforgettable moments engraved for life,” the couple said in the Instagram post that sums it all up.
The wedding photos have received enthusiastic responses. “You look so beautiful! Congratulations to both of you!” said teammate Demi Vollering. Fellow Dutch cyclists Puck Pieterse, Riejanne Markus, Lorena Wiebes, and Yara Kastelijn also left their congratulations, as did Liane Lippert.
