Thibau Nys crashed during altitude training on Sunday. The talented Belgian also sustained injuries, as seen from a photo he shared on social media. The photo shows several abrasions on his face.
Nys is spending a few weeks in the Sierra Nevada with his team,
Lidl-Trek, to prepare for the rest of the season. More specifically, he is preparing for the Tour de France, which is likely to be his next big goal this season. Things went wrong during a training session when the 22-year-old crashed during a descent.
Nys posted the following text in his Instagram story: "Happy to walk away from this one. Be careful on the downhill, kids." It is not yet known how badly Nys crashed or whether there is any further damage. Nys shared the photo below, taken under the Spanish sun and with his shirt off.

Nys with Tour de France team at altitude: debut in grand tour?
Nys is currently at altitude training with the entire Lidl-Trek Tour team, plus a few reserve riders. The final selection for Lidl-Trek for the Tour de France has not yet been made, but Nys is expected to be at the start of the Tour de France in Lille on July 5. The 22-year-old Belgian is on the team's preliminary list and has already indicated that he prefers the Tour over the Vuelta as the first Grand Tour of his career this year.
Before the Tour de France begins, we can see Nys in the Baloise Belgium Tour (June 18) and the Belgian road championship in Binche (June 29). The Tour de France will start a week later.
Nys is certainly not sitting still in Spain. He and his teammates recently completed a nearly
seven-hour ride through the mountains.
