Matthew Brennan was without doubt one of the standout revelations of the 2025 season. The young Brit made his WorldTour debut with
Visma | Lease a Bike and celebrated it in style with no fewer than twelve victories, many of them at the highest level. The 20-year-old sprinter is one of the real gems within the Dutch team, making it no surprise that the squad has moved quickly to extend his contract.
In 2024, Brennan was already given a taste of professional racing, but last season he made an immediate and significant leap forward in his first full year with Visma | Lease a Bike’s elite squad. After a number of podium finishes in Australia, he claimed his first professional victory at the GP Denain, before striking again shortly afterwards with two stage wins in the Volta a Catalunya. They were his first WorldTour victories, but two more followed in the Tour de Romandie and the Tour of Poland.
Brennan also took two stage wins and the overall title at the Tour of Norway, won Rund um Köln, claimed a stage in the Tour of Britain and
beat Jonathan Milan in the Deutschland Tour. A whirlwind of success for a sprinter who is still only 20 years old, and Visma | Lease a Bike is well aware that it has something special on its hands. As a result, the team has decided to extend Brennan’s contract through to the end of 2029.

'Matthew has really surprised us in a positive way this season'
“Matthew has really surprised us in a positive way this season,” said general manager
Grischa Niermann on the
team’s website. “Of course, we already knew him well, because he came through our own ranks. As a team, we constantly adapted to his level and offered him races and challenges tailored to him,” added the German, who sees Brennan as a future team leader.
"He has made big steps in his development this season, but still has a lot to learn,"he adds. "We see working with him as a long-term project, and that is why we are so happy that he feels the same way. In the coming years, we want to help him take the step to the highest level in cycling. He may continue to surprise us."
Brennan himself is delighted to be staying longer with the team. "The environment in this team is so unique: it is partly thanks to the team that I have already been able to develop myself so much. Everyone can help me become a better rider, both the staff and the other riders. And on top of that, I feel the trust I need here. I am happy here and very grateful for the opportunity to take the next steps in my career over such a long period and without pressure."
