UCI slaps hefty fines on three teams after Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes team time trial

Follow us on GoogleOn Tuesday, the UCI scored a major financial win for its piggy bank. Following the stage 3 team time trial at the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the race jury issued three hefty fines. This was all due to doping controls that could not be carried out on time.

Fines, time penalties, and yellow cards are handed out in every race, but the fines have rarely been as high as they were on day three of the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. In total, the UCI collected 10,000 Swiss francs, which amounts to 10,837 euros and 23 cents.
Mathew Hayman and Benoît Genauzeau were the team managers who received the highest fines. The team managers at Jayco AlUla and TotalEnergies were each fined 3,500 francs for failing to have the bikes ready in time for an inspection prior to the team time trial.
Each team was required to have their bikes ready no later than fifteen minutes before the start of the team time trial, with race officials going around to check the equipment. Jayco AlUla and TotalEnergies failed to meet that deadline.
Lotto-Intermarché also received a hefty fine, this time for team manager Mario Aerts. The Belgian team failed to have its equipment ready for a new inspection ten minutes before the start of the race. This resulted in a 3,000-franc fine for the team.

Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes jury handed out penalties in stages 1 and 2
The fines on day three were by far the highest, but penalties were also handed out after stages 1 and 2. For example, Genauzeau and TotalEnergies were each fined 500 francs on the first day after the team car made an improper maneuver.
Two yellow cards have already been issued: one after Stage 1 to Hugo Hofstetter (NSN) for riding on the sidewalk, and one to Anthon Charmig (Uno-X Mobility) for riding in a prohibited position on the bike.
NSN had already been fined 700 francs for a long water bottle hold in the second stage; 200 francs for rider Nadav Raisberg and 500 francs for team manager Oscar Guerrero Celaya. Visma | Lease a Bike was fined 200 francs after Stage 2 because Ben Tulett failed to follow the commissaires’ instructions.

- I suggest that the contract discussions have been put off not because Del Toro and his representitives expect UAE to sign Seixas, which I consider highly unlikely, but rather because he and his reps don't want to set a ceiling on a new contract until they see the size and length of Seixas' deal.
