Following countries like the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, and Australia, the U.S. has also had to make adjustments to its World Championship selections. USA Cycling announced its roster for the Worlds in Rwanda on Tuesday evening and also revealed who turned down their nominations. In the men's category, three major American names will not travel to East Africa.
Matteo Jorgenson (Visma | Lease a Bike) won’t be there after riding both the Tour and the Vuelta, while one-day specialist
Neilson Powless of EF Education-EasyPost has also opted out. Powless has been a reliable contender in recent World Championship finales in recent years.
Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) would have been a strong medal contender in the time trial, but the rider from Arizona will also not line up in Rwanda. Instead, Will Barta (Movistar) and
Magnus Sheffield (INEOS Grenadiers) will ride the chrono, while
Quinn Simmons will be the main name to watch in the road race. The Lidl-Trek rider finished ninth last year in Zurich and has already been documenting his #RoadtoRwanda on Instagram.

Kevin Vermaerke (Picnic PostNL), Larry Warbasse (Tudor), and Luke Lamperti (Soudal Quick-Step) round out the Stars & Stripes elite men's selection.
On the women's side, Olympic and U.S. national champion Kristen Faulkner declined her nomination. That means the Americans will only have two women at the start in Rwanda: Chloé Dygert and Ruth Edwards, both competing in the road race and the time trial.
