Follow us on GoogleMarie Schreiber was inundated with comments on Saturday evening when she posted on Instagram after a bizarre European Cyclocross Championship race in Zeddam. The Luxembourg rider won the elite women’s race but was demoted to second place. She received a lot of online support from her team, SD Worx-Protime, as well as the rest of the cycling world.

Schreiber felt the greatest moment of her career was taken from her at the European Cyclocross Championships
Schreiber was undoubtedly the star of the day, as she was actually the best at the European Championships, but the title went to Lucinda Brand. Schreiber was said to have strayed from her line during the sprint, thereby hindering Brand. Brand herself did not ask for a review at all and accepted the gold medal with some discomfort. Schreiber was angry — as was her team leader, Sanne Cant —and skipped the podium ceremony.

Through her official channels, the Luxembourg athlete kept it short and sweet. “All these emotions… The greatest moment of my career,” she wrote, echoing what she had said in the mixed zone, where she claimed that the greatest victory of her career had been taken away from her.

Cyclists flooded her comments with support
Lorena Weibes commented: "Champion! Way more to come 🔥", whilst Spaniard Paula Blasi added "So impressive ride… the strongest💪🏻❤️🩹".
Fem van Empel simply left a red heart emoji, and Bob Jungels commented "Our champ💪🏻🇱🇺".
The pros were joined in the comments by hundreds of fans adding their voices to the support on her social media channels. Many were calling out 'incompetence' from the jury, bemoaning what decisions like these do to the sport of cyclocross, or simply stating they saw Schreiber as the true champion.
Others shared their support on Instagram
Her own team posted a picture captioned: "Proud of you, Marie! It wasn't the ending we'd hoped for, but there's so much to be proud of. Look at what you showed today: so much strength, determination, and a winning spirit. That's what we'll remember. Keep that spirit alive! On to the next chapter. ❤️"
The Luxembourg Cycling Federation captioned their image: "Congratulations to @schreiber_marie on her excellent performance at the European Cyclocross Championships! Even though the day ended on a disappointing note, we support you and are proud of your performance!"
