Visma | Lease a Bike saw two of its riders compete in the final stage of Tre Valli Varesine on Tuesday. Ben Tulett finished eleventh for the team, while Cian Uijtdebroeks also finished in the chasing group behind winner Tadej Pogacar. Before the race, the Belgian spoke for the first time about his transfer to Movistar.
“Ben was very strong today. In the sprint, he had to find his own way. I think he started a little too early, which allowed many others to overtake him just before the finish line,” said sports director Marc Reef. “It was a very tough race. For us, it was important to keep a cool head and really focus on the last two local laps.”
“At that point, Sepp, Cian, and Ben were in an excellent position thanks to the work of the rest of the team. Ben ultimately had the legs to keep up with the group behind Pogacar. Unfortunately, they couldn't stay ahead of the thinned-out peloton. All in all, I'm delighted with our level today and the earlier Italian classics,” said Reef.

Uijtdebroeks on transfer to Movistar

Before the race, Uijtdebroeks spoke to Eurosport about his move to Movistar. “It hasn't been that long. The talks only started a month ago. We examined the opportunities I would have in the coming years and the races I could participate in. If I have to follow my heart, I want to ride the Grand Tours and compete for the GC. That is also my ambition for the coming years.”
“I feel that this is the right time to take this step. I learned a great deal at Visma, but at Movistar, I will have the freedom to pursue my own path. That motivates me for the winter and the new season,” explains the Belgian.
“Next year, I want to participate in the Giro and the Vuelta again to compete for a good GC,” Uijtdebroeks revealed. “Movistar feels like a warm family that wants to support me there. That’s why I’m leaving for this family.”
