Visma | Lease a Bike has unfortunately had quite a bit of experience with serious injuries in recent years. Last season, Jonas Vingegaard and Wout van Aert were among those affected, but this year, riders such as Christophe Laporte, Cian Uijtdebroeks, and Axel Zingle have also been sidelined for long periods. What is the latest situation? Laporte, who will appear in an interview on this site soon, and Tour de l'Ain winner Uijtdebroeks have now made a successful comeback, as has Zingle, who started the Vuelta on Saturday. He returned last week in Denmark after breaking a vertebra in the Four Days of Dunkirk in May.
On Wednesday, Olav Kooij and Dan McLay crashed on behalf of the team in the Renewi Tour. “It's a shame that Olav wasn't able to ride his best sprint because of the crash, but otherwise it looked excellent. Unfortunately, Dan came off worse in the crash and didn't reach the finish,” sports director Marc Reef explained.
Later that evening, the verdict came: the British rider, who was leaving the team,
had broken his collarbone, just like team leader Kooij earlier this year in Gent-Wevelgem, so a replacement will have to be called up for at least the Tour of Britain in early September.

Lemmen got back on the Tacx for the first time on August 6 and was already cycling outdoors again on August 15.

Another rider we haven't seen in action for a while is Per Strand Hagenes. The Norwegian recorded a DNS in the Copenhagen Sprint and at the Norwegian Championships and has not been in action since, even though he showed last year at this time of year that he had taken a step forward. At the time, he finished third in the Renewi Tour and fifth in Quebec.
This season, Hagenes was also mentioned as a possible option for the Vuelta, where he could play a role similar to the one he played in the Critérium du Dauphiné. However, the team revealed that Hagenes fell seriously ill during the summer and has lost momentum as a result, meaning he has not been able to compete during this busy period of the year.
