Matteo Moschetti won the second stage of the Tour of Burgos. The Italian rider from Q36.5 Pro Cycling was the fastest in a super-fast downhill sprint, where he defeated his compatriot Matteo Malucelli (XDS-Astana) and Juan Sebastian Molano (UAE Team Emirates - XRG). Roger Adrià's jersey as leader was not in danger.
Roger Adrià won the difficult first stage of the Tour of Burgos, but the Spaniard from Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe was not in the spotlight after the stage. Isaac Del Toro crashed in the final meters, taking Giulio Ciccone with him. The two GC contenders would have to wait for a chance for revenge, as the second stage seemed to be for the fast men.
The stage from Cilleruelo de Abajo to Buniel was, on paper, the easiest of the entire race, so the breakaway group seemed to have little chance of staying ahead. The four Spaniards who wanted to try their luck saw no reason not to: Ander Okamika (Burgos Burpellet BH), Pau Llaneras (Iles Balears Arabay), Iker Mintegi, and Txomin Juaristi (Euskaltel - Euskadi) went for it and built up a lead of about 3 minutes.

Sprint finish decided by millimeters

The suspicion was confirmed, as UAE Team Emirates - XRG and Q36.5 Pro Cycling had picked up the pace in the peloton. With Juan Sebastian Molano and Matteo Moschetti, those teams had two of the fastest men in the pack: the four held on bravely, but with 10 kilometers to go, the adventure was over. It was time to wait for the final kilometers, because a sprint was inevitable.
It was the expected teams that stayed in front until deep into the final. Moschetti and Molano's men kept their sprinters well in front, and XDS-Astana also appeared on the scene for Matteo Malucelli. In the blisteringly fast sprint, which was slightly downhill, it was a photo finish between those three sprinters: in the end, Moschetti got the benefit of the doubt from the photo finish.
