Roglic was part of a great era at Visma
Roglič had mixed results at Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe
Roglic rode for Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe for the past three years. His German adventure turned out to be a mixed success: he won the Vuelta a España in 2024, but the long-awaited victory in the Tour de France proved to be out of reach.
At the age of 36, the Slovenian began to have doubts about his future in cycling as his results started to slip.
Retirement seemed to be a viable option for Roglič
Was he going to retire? Well, in the fall, Roglic was still performing at an incredible level, finishing second in the Vuelta a España.
He was also very aggressive at the World Cycling Championships, and to top it all off, he won the European time trial title—in his home country, no less. It was a fantastic moment, but it was still unclear whether he would be able to show off his new jersey in a race.
Even after winning that title, the four-time Vuelta champion is still unsure about his future. In any case, there’s no shortage of interest.
Pinarello - Q36.5, Tudor, Lotto-Intermarché, and XDS Astana have already been mentioned as possible new teams for Roglic, who turns 37 on October 29. But the name Visma | Lease a Bike has also been mentioned.

It appears that Roglic's return to Visma | Lease a Bike is off the table.
Roglič will not Join Visma or Lotto-Intermarché
It would mark a remarkable return. Roglic turned pro with the Dutch team in 2016 and achieved fantastic success there. He won Liège–Bastogne–Liège, the Vuelta three times, and the Giro d’Italia once.
He also became the Olympic time trial champion. He left the team after some disagreements over leadership roles, but a return was reported be on the table as he entered a new phase of his career.
But according to
Het Laatste Nieuws, that plan is off the table.
Discussions did indeed take place, the Belgian media outlet reports, but the team itself decided to call it off. The 30th and final rider on the roster is more likely to be someone from the team’s own development program, such as Eliott Rowe, Henry Hobbs, and U23 world champion Ashlin Barry.
Though Visma | Lease a Bike is keeping several options open. Roglic is not one of them.
That leaves the Slovenian with some options of his own. But he is said to have already turned down an offer from Lotto-Intermarché, which means that XDS Astana, Tudor, and Pinarello–Q36.5 are still in the running.
Unibet Rose Rockets has also already held talks with Roglic, as Bas Tietema himself confirmed. To be continued, no doubt...
