After a twenty-year absence, it's time for another Tour of the Netherlands this week, although in 2025 it is known as the Tour of Holland. In just six days, we'll be seeing several new formats! IDLProCycling.com will once again provide you with a detailed preview!
The Tour of the Netherlands officially disappeared from the calendar in 2004, although we did, of course, have the Eneco/BinckBanck/Saxo Bank/Renewi Tour for many years, which was held (in part) in the Netherlands. However, TIG, together with various other stakeholders, put its weight behind getting a ‘real’ Dutch tour on the calendar, and it succeeded.
Finding a unique spot on an already packed cycling calendar was a challenge, which is why they settled on October, at the very end of the cycling year. Through four road stages and two time trials, a successor will be sought for Erik Dekker, who in 2004 was still the last rider to dominate the Tour of the Netherlands.

Tour of Holland 2025: Course, favorites stage wins and times

Prologue, Tuesday, Oct. 14: The Hague (4 km)

holland-proloog
The Tour of Holland will start with a 4-kilometer prologue in Zuiderpark, The Hague. After a day full of activities for young and old, this ultra-short individual time trial under artificial lighting will be the finale of the overture.

Stage 1, Wednesday, Oct. 15: Dordrecht - Dordrecht (118.5 km)

holland-2
Dordrecht has the pleasure of hosting the start and finish of the first stage of the Tour of Holland. After two so-called Red Bull kilometers along the way—where 3, 2, and 1 bonus seconds can be earned—we will likely see a sprint after 118.5 kilometers.

We already had a time trial on day one, but two days later, the riders will have another chance to compete individually. In Etten-Leur, in the west of Brabant, a 14.8-kilometer time trial is on the program.

Stage 3, Friday, Oct. 17: Sittard - Watersley (149.3 km)

holland-5
A Tour of Holland without a stage through Limburg is, of course, not a Tour of Holland. And so, on day three, the riders will visit the southernmost province of our country, starting at the Tom Dumoulin Bike Park in Sittard and finishing on the uphill asphalt in Watersley. Along the way, they will have to conquer the Keuteberg, Cauberg, Gulperberg, and so on!

holland-vam
From Friday to Saturday, the riders will venture from South Limburg to Drenthe. The fifth stage starts in Emmen and finishes on the well-known VAM-Berg, where we have seen many championships in recent years. And if there is one thing we can be sure of, it is that it will be a race!

Stage 5, Sunday, Oct. 19: Arnhem - Arnhem (155.0 km)

holland-arnhem
The organizers of the Tour of Holland have clearly drawn motivation from the recent Dutch Championships, because in addition to Watersley and the VAM-berg, Arnhem will be central to the final stage. New to the 2024 Dutch Championships is the presence of gravel in the circuit, which adds extra cachet to the final stage of the race.

Favorites final classification Tour of Holland 2025

From the prologue in The Hague to the hilly and undoubtedly chaotic stages in Limburg, Drenthe, and Gelderland, the winner of the Tour of Holland must be a jack of all trades. Except for the mountains, of course, as we simply do not have the options for that in our country, geographically speaking.
In our opinion, the classic types with punch have the advantage in this stage race, also due to the presence of bonus points at the finish line and at the Red Bull kilometers along the way. Arnaud De Lie, who has Alec Segaert at his side, among others, already proved with an overall victory in the Renewi Tour in August that he can cut it for Lotto.
Visma | Lease a Bike will be deploying Christophe Laporte, Olav Kooij, and Bart Lemmen, among others. Laporte is similar to De Lie, although he can usually also rely on a better time trial. The Frenchman is also returning to the VAM-Berg, where he impressively won the European championship in 2023.
christophe laporte
With Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe and Lidl-Trek, there are two other major WorldTeams present. The Germans seem to be pinning their hopes on a strong and motivated Danny van Poppel and Tim van Dijke, while the partly American team has Daan Hoole, the best time trialist in our country, in its ranks. In addition, it is fielding the world under-23 time trial champion, Jakob Soderqvist, and the German sprint specialist Tim Torn Teutenberg.
Picnic PostNL has Nils Eekhoff and Tobias Lund Andresen as potential GC contenders, while Intermarché-Wanty will be looking to Huub Artz. XDS-Astana can count on Mike Teunissen and the retiring, yet undoubtedly highly motivated, Ide Schelling. Soudal Quick-Step has Yves Lampaert, Tim Merlier, and Pepijn Reinderink.
We also have Rory Townsend (Q36.5), Mirco Maestri (Polti VisitMalta), Anthony Turgis, Alexys Brunel (TotalEnergies), Lukas Kubis, Thomas Kopecky (Unibet Tietema Rockets), Frits Biesterbos (BEAT Cycling), Tim Marsman (VolkerWessels), Martijn Rasenberg (Parkhotel Valkenburg), and Rick Ottema (Diftar).

Who are the favorites for the final classification of the 2025 Tour of Holland, according to IDLProCycling.com?

Top favorites: Arnaud De Lie (Lotto) and Christophe Laporte (Visma | Lease a Bike)
Outsiders: Tim van Dijke (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe), Jakob Soderqvist (Lidl-Trek), Nils Eekhoff (Picnic PostNL) and Alec Segaert (Lotto)
Long shots: Daan Hoole (Lidl-Trek), Olav Kooij (Visma | Lease a Bike), Danny van Poppel (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe), Anthony Turgis (TotalEnergies), Lukas Kubis (Unibet Tietema Rockets), Tobias Lund Andresen (Picnic PostNL), Huub Artz (Intermarché-Wanty) and Mike Teunissen (XDS-Astana)
