The Vuelta a España 2027 will start from Santiago de Compostela, with the organisation announcing the host city before the conclusion of the 2026 edition. The capital of the Galicia region is famous for the pilgrimage route leading to the tomb of the apostle Saint James, but next year it will also welcome the cycling peloton.

Alongside the start location, the organisers have already revealed that stage 1 of the 2027 Vuelta will be a road stage. This means that we should not expect an individual time trial or team time trial to open the Spanish Grand Tour. This year, the race began in Monaco, where Tadej Pogacar immediately took control by winning the opening time trial.
It will be the ninth time that the Vuelta has started in Galicia. The first occasion was in 1965, while the most recent one came in 2016. No other details have yet been confirmed about the 2027 route, which is usually announced towards the end of the year. Read here the preview of this year's last stage.
