Tao Geoghegan Hart will be out of action for some time following his crash in the Giro d'Italia. The British cyclist, who crashed in the eleventh stage of the race, has broken his hip. INEOS Grenadiers reported this on Wednesday evening.

Geoghegan Hart crashed after a slide by Alessandro Covi (UAE-Team Emirates), who also took down Primoz Roglic and pink jersey rider Geraint Thomas in his fall. Pavel Sivakov, also from INEOS Grenadiers, went down as well. Roglic suffered a cut on his thigh, while Sivakov lost nearly fifteen minutes due to hip pain.
However, the biggest casualty is undoubtedly Geoghegan Hart, who was taken to the hospital in Genoa after his fall. Examinations revealed a complicated hip fracture, requiring the rider to undergo surgery. His team, INEOS Grenadiers, wishes him the best.

The rider himself also issued a brief statement earlier in the evening. "I'm devastated that this is how the Giro ended for me. Thank you everyone for the messages and support. I was looking forward to the rest of this race and was enjoying every minute. Arrivederci Giro d'Italia."
