Tour de France top-10 revelation Jordan Jegat set for Lidl-Trek move

The traditional rush of cycling transfer announcements is just two days away. It may seem strange with the season still in full swing, but official confirmation of riders changing teams is expected to follow quickly. Before those announcements arrive, reports surrounding one of the Tour de France’s top-10 finishers are becoming increasingly persistent.

Jordan Jegat has made an outstanding impression during his past two seasons with TotalEnergies. He surprised at the 2025 Tour de France by finishing an impressive tenth in the general classification, before producing another strong overall performance one year later. The French climber also claimed his first professional victory at the Classic Grand Besançon Doubs this season and finished fourth at the Tour of Turkey.

TotalEnergies would reportedly like to retain the 27-year-old, but the French squad has been in a difficult position for some time. Title sponsor TotalEnergies will step away at the end of the year, meaning the team must find new financial backers. That search has proved increasingly difficult. It also led the team to introduce strict conditions for riders, many of whom feared for their professional futures.

Jegat has also spoken openly about the uncertain situation. He now appears set to escape those concerns: according to Daniel Benson, the Frenchman will step up to the WorldTour and sign for Lidl-Trek. He is expected to receive a three-year contract and strengthen the German-American team’s general classification group, joining riders including Juan Ayuso, Derek Gee-West and Mattias Skjelmose. Jegat had previously been linked with Decathlon CMA CGM.

The exit door also appears to be open at EF Education-EasyPost. Georg Steinhauser is reportedly set to leave the team. The German climber won a stage of the 2024 Giro d’Italia and finished third at Paris-Nice this year, but is now expected to join Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe. Michael Valgren, winner of the seventeenth stage of this year’s Giro, could also depart. Netcompany INEOS are reportedly preparing to secure the Dane’s signature.

Alpecin-Premier Tech, meanwhile, are believed to have positive news regarding Gal Glivar. The Slovenian joined from UAE Team Emirates at the end of 2024 and is expected to add another two years to his contract, keeping him with the team through 2028. Guillermo Thomas Silva, who won the second stage of the Giro d’Italia and wore the pink jersey, is also reportedly set to extend with XDS Astana and sign through the end of 2029.
