Part of the so-called 'White Jersey group,' Visma | Lease a Bike made an impression in the recent Tour de Romandie. The 19-year-old Matthew Brennan won a stage, and the one-year-old Jørgen Nordhagen made a strong impression in the queen stage and the final time trial on Sunday.
Visma | Lease a Bike had a successful week to look back on Sunday evening. Expectations were not high beforehand, as the team traveled to Switzerland without big names. The race was all about the development of the young guys, with all eyes on top talents Brennan and Nordhagen.
The former had already taken the season by storm with two stage wins in the Tour of Catalonia. The British rider is a sprinter who can easily handle challenging courses. Brennan demonstrated his talent on the second day by winning the sprint by several bike lengths. Nordhagen, an excellent climbing talent, had a somewhat more difficult start but performed well in the last two days with an eighth place in Saturday's mountain stage and fourteenth in the final time trial. This resulted in a well-deserved thirteenth place in the GC of his first stage race at WorldTour level.

Brennan also put in a fine time trial, finishing eleventh, even slightly better than his Norwegian teammate. Therefore, sports director Maarten Wynants was very satisfied reviewing his team's performance. "With a bit of luck, Matthew finishes inside the top ten (the number eight was one second faster), but it's already great that they can join the big guns. Matthew and Jørgen have once again shown a lot of potential," said Wynants, who is optimistic about the future of the two rising stars.
"The White Jersey group held their own all week," Wynants continued, referring not only to Nordhagen and Brennan but also to Dutch talents Tijmen Graat and Menno Huising. "But also, the other guys did well and were able to do their part. We fought for the win every day and got a nice win with Matthew. Our week was more than successful."
