Jonas Vingegaard claimed the stage victory in a truly fabulous manner on the Col du Tourmalet on Friday. The Dane from Jumbo-Visma pulled off a seven-kilometer solo ride on the Pyrenean giant, while his teammates Sepp Kuss and Primoz Roglic finished second and third.
"I am so happy; I couldn't have picked a better day," said Vingegaard, who then immediately got emotional and elaborated further. "It's my daughter's birthday, and I wanted to win for her. She turned three today. This victory is for her, for sure," said the family man from the Dutch team. "This is also what I really wanted: to win, for her."

Vingegaard: "This was better than the plan"

The flash interviewer on duty at the Vuelta a España wanted to know if Jumbo-Visma's race strategy had worked well. "Our plan was to gain time on our opponents, and that's what happened. I am so happy and proud, for my daughter Frida," Vingegaard spoke again about his daughter, before the interviewer tried again. "This was better than the plan," Vingegaard coolly responded, back on top of the Tourmalet.
The Dane now stands third in the general classification, behind teammates Kuss and Roglic. Saturday awaits another similar day in the Tour of Spain, as the peloton must survive another stage through the Pyrenees. However, after Friday's stage, the question remains whether the peloton will allow another such show from Jumbo-Visma.
