Tadej Pogačar and Urška Zigart were spotted Wednesday on the route of the European Cycling Championships in Slovenia. The country’s two star athletes are not competing in the championships after both sustained injuries in recent weeks. However, that didn’t stop them from traveling to Ljubljana for a quick spin. Pogačar and Zigart will both feature at the European Championships
Pogacar and Zigart will undoubtedly play a role at the European Championships, though that will likely be off the bike. The cycling duo was not selected by the Slovenian Cycling Federation—Pogačar following a hard crash in the Vuelta a España and Zigart after
breaking her jaw yet again in a French stage race. It’s clear, however, that they’re doing well.
Mikkel Honoré (EF Education-EasyPost) and Zigart shared
photos on Wednesday of their training ride with Pogacar around Ljubljana. Pogacar was once again wearing his European champion’s jersey, which he can finally wear now that he lost his world title last Sunday to UAE Emirates-XRG teammate Brandon McNulty.

Brandon McNulty became world champion and took over the rainbow jersey from Tadej Pogacar.
Pogačar and Zigart will have to grit their teeth during the European Championships
The photos of Pogačar and Zigart were released on the same day as the announcement of
the Slovenian roster for the European Championships. That press release definitively ruled out the duo’s participation, although Pogačar, in particular, still did his best to be part of the European Championships—and possibly the Tour of Lombardy as well.
However, the
UAE believes that racing in 2026 is too soon and is aiming for a strong winter training season followed by a successful 2027. Pogačar and Zigart will therefore be watching from the sidelines, gritting their teeth, as a European jersey is awarded to someone else right on their training routes. The course in Slovenia was even partially designed with
Pogi’s help.
