Mathieu van der Poel and YouTube hit Average Rob have once again linked up. A year ago, Belgian comedian Robert Van Impe found Van der Poel willing to teach him the ins and outs of cyclocross. This time, the gentlemen mount a mountain bike. And afterwards, an interesting bet emerges...
Average Rob, a hit series on YouTube in which Van Impe tries out various things through the lessons of a professional, and Van der Poel already knew each other. The Van Impe brothers - because Van Impe has been taking his brother Arno along for a while now - were challenged to learn mountain biking. And we're not talking about a leisurely ride in Aa en Hunze in Drenthe. No, steep climbs, rocks and challenging descents were all part of the deal.
"Without protection, only the helmet," Van der Poel immediately exclaims, not considering the Downhill experience of the Van Impe brothers in his intriguing lesson. First up: crossing a bump with the bike, then they face a longer course over a winding scaffold. With a little help from the master, Rob manages to complete the course himself. Eventually, he even makes it across the rocks totally fine.
However, that was only the beginning, as Van der Poel also takes the duo into the woods. The men can't shake off their fear, as Rob's fall in a previous Downhill video is still on his mind. The laughter, the genuinely interesting mountain bike tips from Mathieu and the editing make the video a very enjoyable watch. Especially when, at the end of the video, a bet is made: if the video gets 42,000 likes (or more), Van der Poel promises to do an Ironman: 3.86 kilometers of swimming, 180.2 kilometers of cycling and 42.195 kilometers of running. "If it fits into my schedule, okay?!" the Dutchman adds.
By Sunday, November 19, the number of likes had already reached 81,000. So, Van der Poel will have to start preparing for 2024... Rob and Arno are already on board, so we can't wait!
