It is Andreu Canals, the person who discovered Mavi García, who is revealing the figures. As a coach and sports administrator, Canals has been a key figure in the career of Mavi García, the most successful Spanish female cyclist of recent years.
Canals was the president of the Balearic Islands Cycling Federation and was one of the first to recognize her talent when Garcia was still competing in duathlons. The Spanish rider turned pro at age 31, has since won stages in the Tour de France and secured podium finishes and victories in classics at the World Championships, and will continue to compete with UAE next year at age 43.

Paula Blasi has signed with Movistar for the coming seasons

Garcia and Blasi were teammates at UAE

In recent seasons, Garcia has also taken Blasi under her wing at UAE. Blasi, who comes from a triathlon background, won the Vuelta and the Amstel Gold Race last year, making her the most sought-after rider on the transfer market.
Canals outlines the differences compared to 2018, when, for example, there was as yet no Tour de France Femmes. “In 2018, I negotiated with Movistar regarding the contract of the best Spanish female cyclist of recent years, Mavi Garcia. She earned €25,000.”
"Now, in 2026, Paula Blasi has signed with the same team for €600,000 plus bonuses. That's how things have changed in women's cycling over the past 8 years," said the Spaniard. Blasi's salary is 24 times more than her former teammates.

Blasi—who signed a three-year contract—will form a formidable duo with Marlen Reusser at Movistar. They aim to dethrone Demi Vollering in the Tour de France Femmes.
